Provider FAQs

Common questions from physicians, PTs, OTs, and case managers.

Are you physical therapists?

Our coaches are experienced therapists credentialed by the CDC, the Academy of Geriatric Therapy, Feldenkrais, and other organizations. The Center of Balance is a preventive fall-prevention program, not a physical therapy clinic. We complement PT rather than replace it.

What conditions do you not accept?

We do not accept patients whose primary issue is vestibular disease, Parkinson's disease, or other neurological disorders. Those patients should be managed by the appropriate specialist.

Is a physician's referral required?

No — patients can self-refer. More often, providers simply recommend us to at-risk patients and the patient reaches out. Written referrals are welcome but not required.

Do you bill insurance or Medicare?

No — we are a private-pay program. This allows us to provide full-hour, one-on-one sessions that address the full risk-factor picture, beyond what an insurance code typically covers.

What reporting do we receive?

With patient consent: an intake summary with validated assessment scores, periodic updates, and a transition summary. On request, additional interval notes.

What is your appropriate patient profile?

Older adults with fall history, fear of falling, gait or balance changes, sarcopenia, or post-discharge deconditioning. Patients should be medically stable and able to safely engage in progressive balance training.

How does the home safety inspection work?

Our home inspectors are ECHM (Executive Certification in Home Modification)-certified occupational therapists. They identify environmental risks and recommend trusted independent contractors to implement the modifications.

Can we schedule a call to learn more?

Yes — email contact@thecenterofbalance.com and we'll arrange a call.
